Soon, the real European direct democracy will start. The treaty of Lisbon includes the option of a European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI): European citizens can send a proposal to the European Commission to make a bill on a certain issue. The only condition is that one million European citizens support the ECI.

Aujourd'hui la grande majorité des citoyens européens souhaitent évoluer dans une économie sociale de marché, dans laquelle des politiques efficaces d'aides sociales coordonnées entre Etats membres sont mises en place. Les citoyens européens d'aujourd'hui veulent des politiques qui laisseront aux futures générations un système cohérent d'aides sociales, une économie viable et un environnement respecté. Ceci doit même être un principe directif de toutes les politiques économiques mises en place.

Autrefois, il y avait la Yougoslavie, aujourd’hui on parle de la naissance d’une « Yougosphère ». Ce nouveau concept a fait la « une » des débats dans les « Balkans occidentaux » tout au long de l’année 2009. Culture, histoire, économie : bien des choses relient toujours les pays de l’ancienne Yougoslavie. En attendant leur intégration dans l’Union européenne, ces États doivent normaliser leurs relations. Une question cependant : la mise en avant de cette « Yougosphère » est-elle un prélude ou une alternative à l’intégration ?

Binnenkort begint eindelijk de Europese directe democratie. In het verdrag van Lissabon is de mogelijkheid van een burgerinitiatief opgenomen: burgers kunnen een voorstel doen aan de Europese Commissie om een wetsvoorstel te maken op een bepaald terrein. De enige voorwaarde is dat een miljoen Europese burgers het burgerinitiatief ondersteunen.
